Week 28 - End of Carnival in Cabanagem!!

Hello!

So this week was good. The Carnival passed last weekend and it was pretty nuts Tuesday. We were walking home that night and there was thousands of people in the street and the music was so loud my whole body was shaking. But as we were walking home it started raining and everyone in the street went to the sides to find shelter and left a big ole path for us to walk through. Blessing. But it was definitely a cool experience!

Wednesday we had a district meeting so that was fun. I always enjoy the meetings because we have really good trainings and what not. But seriously it rains here everyday. Everyday. I can't complain because I would rather be soaking wet all day than walking in the burning sun. But it gets a little annoying. It seems like it always rains the hardest when I forget to bring an umbrella...

We were planning a baptism for this week. We are teaching a little old woman.  Our district leader came to our area to interview her and she wanted to be baptized, but she drank coffee that morning so we had to postpone until this coming up Saturday. But then she didn't come to church on Sunday so I don't know if we will baptize her or not.

But we do have one baptism very firm for this Saturday - the boyfriend of the member less active I've been telling you about. He is super good. Accepts all the commandents and is very excited for his baptism. They will marry on Friday and we will baptize him on Saturday. We were running around this week trying to help them get all the papers for marriage filled out and sent. So that was stressful!

We are also teaching the guy we found in the area book from 4 years ago. I did a pre interview with him and he doesn't have any problems with the commandments and has a very strong desire to be baptized. He just isn't sure this is the right time. So he isn't very firm for this Saturday but we are working with him and our district leader will come talk to him this week. If he doesn't get baptized now he will some day.

Yesterday we went and ate lunch at the engaged couple's house because they did a big ole barbecue with lots of steak and rice and what not. Probably one of the best meals I have had on my mission. Everyone here eats farinha. I dont know how to explain it but it only exists in Brazil I think... But I absolutely love it! I literally can't eat without farinha. And the farinha they had at lunch yesterday was mixed with bacon and french fries. I literally ate a bowl of just farinha. I was in heaven. And last night we went to another investigators house and ate dinner. She gave us vatapá and tacacá. I really can't explain those 2 but you can look it up. I have already eaten both of them in Óbidos and I wasn't a huge fan, but I think it is just something you have to get used to. It was my companion's first time eating tacacá. Oh I wish I had a camera when he ate it. I thought he was going to cry. There is something in it that is very hot and you lose all the feeling in your tongue, He did not like it. It was pretty funny.

I will send pictures later at the church. I don't know if they have valentines day here. I don't think so. Elder Lourenço said he saw a package for me in the office but I haven't recieved it yet. I took some of my Christmas money out of my bank account this week. I used it for a good cause! And don't worry about sending me any khaki pants. I'm good with what I have. And size 13 for the shoes you're sending me.
So Taylor is going to California on her mission? And that means Bessemer Ward will have 7 missionaries serving? That is so good!

Yes mom go ahead and accept all those FB friend requests. A lot of members from the ward here said they sent me one.

Well that's about it for this week. I love my mission! I am learning so much everyday. I still have a lot to learn and just wish I had more time in the day to study!

Scripture for the week Mosiah 2:41

41 And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.

Love yall!
